Having been founded by Earl S. Tupper (an American entrepreneur in Orlando, Florida) way back in 1946, the Tupperware Brands Corporation with its extensive Tupperware line of products has long been a common household name in just about every home in the United States and it is about as American as (please forgive the cliché) mom, baseball and apple pie.  Tupperware Brands Corporation wholly owns, designs, develops, manufactures and distributes its Tupperware merchandise for the kitchen nationally as well as internationally and their sales are propelled by a sales force of about two million independent consults, the great majority of whom are women.

The Tupperware Brands Corporation was the first to initiate the “direct marketing” sales strategy which gained fame and popularity by the Tupperware parties and the jubilee-style theme events which drove sales to tremendous heights by the early years of the 1950s.  Tupperware products ultimately made their way into Europe and then to other parts of the world after the first overseas Tupperware party was hosted in Weybridge, England in 1960.

Today, Tupperware products are sold in nearly 100 countries and those which sell the highest quantities are Germany, USA, France, Mexico, Russia, Australia/New Zealand, Italy, Austria, South Africa, Japan and India.  Most of the company’s revenues still come from sales at Tupperware parties but Tupperware products are now also sold through retail stores in North America such as Target in the United States as well as through kiosks in malls and Superstores in Canada.  In China, Tupperware products are sold in nearly 2,000 outlets of franchised shops.

In their earlier years, Tupperware products were all plastic containers intended for food preparations and for storage in their airtight and “burping seal” lids which were patented and became the single most significant feature that distinguished Tupperware from its competitors.  Tupperware products also developed an entire line of plastic containers for serving foods.

Additional innovations within the Tupperware Brands Corporation led to their new line of stainless steel cookware, fine cutlery, chef’s knives and other helpful implements for the kitchen.  Also, Tupperware products are marketed by alternate names in different markets and the most popular ones are:

  • Modular Mates (United States and Australia), Space Savers (United Kingdom), Kompakt System (Denmark) - Oval and rectangular shaped containers that stack modularly to save space.
  • Rock ‘N Serve (United States and Australia), Crystal Plus (United Kingdom) – Microwave and freezer safe containers.
