Rose Catalog

I can think of only one disadvantage to buying roses through rose catalogs but it is a huge one — it does not allow you to bend down to smell them!  Now that we have got that out of the way, let us look at the advantages of acquiring roses from rose catalogs:

  • The variety.  It is physically as well as logistically impossible for even a combination of a dozen or more nurseries to stock all the roses and their glorious varieties that even a single rose catalog tends to display.  Shopping from rose catalogs issued by growers from around the country or even from around the world will give you easy and convenient access to the most rare, the most exotic and the most beautiful roses.
  • The thorns.  If you have ever been shopping for rose bushes at local or out-of-town nurseries you will appreciate the fact that shopping for them through catalogs guards you against their nasty thorns — your hands will not get pierced, your legs will not get scratched and your clothes will not get snagged.
  • Price comparison.  Rather than running around from one nursery to another that may be situated clear on the other side of town or maybe even in the next one, price comparison between dozens of rose catalogs is merely a matter of several clicks on your computer’s keyboard.

Now that I have managed to convince you that the pros far outweigh the one and only con of shopping from rose catalogs, let me get you acquainted with a few of them:

  • Jackson & Perkins shows you what an authentic garden inspired living looks like and they have been doing that since 1872.  They carry the new and the unusual as well as a few varieties that are exclusively their own and they guarantee best blooms with least amount of work shipped to you just in time for planting.
  • Rose Magazine is not just a breathtakingly beautiful rose catalog that displays more variety than you would ever hope to see in any one location, but it also provides a wealth of informative and education articles for beginners and experts alike.  Browsing through the Rose Magazine will teach you about the many types of roses, their peculiarities and diversities as well as how to plant, grow, fertilize, mulch, shape and prune them.
  • Linda’s Antique Rose Catalog is a one woman (a mother) and one man (her son) operation that developed out of sheer passion for roses.  Each of their plants is grown with love and care, and the results reflect the tenderness that was invested.
  • Witherspoon Rose Culture have been in the rose growing business for 58 years and have since developed time-proven methods to arrive at optimal results.  They exceed the required Environmental Protection Agency standards by tending to their roses with the environment in mind.  Furthermore, Witherspoon Rose Culture have been awards the Harold Sun Reader’s Choice Award for the Best Lawn and Garden Service in 2007; a certificate from the All-America Rose Selections (AARS) for achieving Outstanding Rose Garden Maintenance in 1999 through 2006; the C12 Group™ Member of the Year 2006 Award; and the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce Circle of Influence Diversity Award in 2004.

Reward yourself with a rose garden, you deserve it.
